Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin just announced that the deadline for filing
your 2019 tax return is being moved. Specifically, he stated, “We are
moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will
have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or
penalties.” The change gives both individuals and corporations an additional
three months to file before they would owe interest or the penalty for filing
late. This announcement comes on the heels of another IRS announcement saying
the agency is reducing its returns processing staff by 50% until the situation
is under control.
